Hey everyone, I'm a freshman and I'm super excited for Halloween up here, but since Halloween is on Sunday is everyone going to wear costumes on campus on like Friday the 29th? I've heard some people are wearing costumes but I just don't want to show up to campus decked out in my Mandalorian armor and no one else is dressed up.

2021.10.22 15:17 BetelGeuse1987 Maps for collectibles and stuff? Few other questions about Coop and stuff.
Howdy! Is there a place to buy these maps with in game currency? I usually like to find everything I can which is tedious in itself lol. But so far I just see the map for chickens and boxes and stuff in what I think is real money to buy maps?
Also the buddies… I’m leveling my Croc. He’s awesome. But am I able to find other buddies at any time? The hint for Chorizo is Monterey Farm in Mogote Foothills. Ahh nevermind I just now see the Foothills above me on another island I’ll have to figure out how to reach while looking for the national park that Boom Booms hint points me too.
I see a place near the start with Mogote in it but I’m not sure if that’s the right spot and the fern just isn’t labeled on the map?
I don’t know what Oluso is. Looks like some sort of Cat. But I’d love to find Boom Boom just to have an real Doggo with me. Chorizo looks cute and all but I’d love my Mad Max style dog lol. I don’t see this national park on the map. Can anyone point me in the direction?
I bought an Assassins Creed outfit but it doesn’t appear in my gear list? Any idea why?
If I play with a friend… one whom is behind me gameplay wise.. does it matter who’s game we play in or do I need to jump into theirs so it brings my gear and stuff with me into his game further back with older missions and what not? So they can catch up to me?
I think that’s all. Just trying to get an good grasp on everything. It all seems a bit more convoluted then previous games for some reason. Maybe it’s just me having not gamed in quite a while for real.
Does it take long to get some sort of flying vehicle so I can get to these places if I just wanted to skip through and reach Boom Boom or something I want to get early?
Also the first checkpoint they have you take over. I found a key for the place but then was able to open everything there without it, it seemed. Is there like a hidden box or hatch or door somewhere there im missing? I don’t see the key in my inventory anymore so maybe I used it and there was no animation?
A few spots have red around them. I imagine these are un-liberated areas. I swear I’ve killed everyone in the Santuario Wetlands area right near the start but these two little lines don’t go away. Do they ever? Am I missing something?
Anyway I know this was a jumbled mess of questions and I appreciate anyone that can answer them or a few of them. Ty and I appreciate it.

2021.10.22 15:17 francescovirgolinii The dark knuckles
I'm more curious than anything. As a person with PCOS I've had dark knuckles most of my life and only grew aware that it wasnt normal recently.
Do any other haydurs have a dark knuckle situation type deal? And if so, are you bothered by the hate comments dissing amber's knuckles?
Personally, I just scroll past shit I dont like and move on with my life, but I do admit I've grown more self conscious. I do limit my exposure to lolcows as a result.

2021.10.22 15:17 ThisGuy-AreSick Any intersection between Plato's Republic, video games, and Millennial/Zoomer existential crises?
This is a very random thought. But maybe some academic has already explored this idea.
Millennials and Zoomers are increasingly feeling existential dread about the state of the world. Runaway climate change, the rising authoritarianism in developed countries, the failure of democratic systems, "late stage" capitalism, and technological advances which outpace the fields of ethics and government all seem to contribute to this existential dread, and even cynicism and nihilism.
Plato, in his Republic, created a hypothetical society as a thought experiment, and in doing so considered the rules necessary for maintaining this society. In order to protect society, Plato argued, art must be censored. For example, people can't hear about how Zeus is always cheating on his wife, because then it's normalized. Stories shouldn't depict heroes crying in the face of death, because society needs strong warriors who won't do that. Essentially, Plato argues that art is not merely representations of the world (a copy of a copy of what is actually real), but also that art influences how we understand the world and thus behave in it.
If we accept that last part, let's return to the 20th century. In the second half of the 1900s, art became much more immersive (or, at least, in different ways) with the advent of video games. Certainly now, with advances in virtual reality, art is arguably at its most immersive in history. No longer are we watching the acts of heroes play out on stage, but every person regardless of acting ability can become a hero.
Millennials and (to a much greater extent) Gen Z both grew up with that. No matter what you consider unjust in the real world, there is likely a video game counterpart for that in which you tackle that problem (and probably can succeed). Old stories previous generations grew up with are also reimagined in a more immersive way, giving the audience more agency and more of an active role in resolving the problem. The player is given power normal people don't have.
So I'm wondering if this has any effect on the generations who came of age with this new media. Does our helplessness, compared to the power we are accustomed to in video games, make us feel weak and defeated in the real world when we are faced with the real versions of the conflicts we overcome in video games? Or maybe the opposite is true. Is it possible that growing up as the hero in every story emboldened Gen Z in particular to assert more political power, as seems to be happening with issues like gun violence, climate change, women's march, blm protests, etc.
Random thoughts! Any recommendations for established cultural criticism on this topic?
